A neighborhood boy reminded me it is St. Patrick's day by pinching me because I wasn't wearing green. Traci celebrated in our family by making green pancakes for breakfast.
Mom always made each holiday special and something to look forward to as we were growing up. I don't know if I ever thanked her or if she knew how much those little traditions meant but they were sure fun. We have tried to keep many of them alive in our family.
I read this week of a school in Massachusetts which has banned St. Patricks day and instead changed the name to O'Green Day to avoid offending the non-Catholic students. One more thing to thank political correctness for ruining. No doubt this trend will catch on and over time will change this holiday into a "save the planet" green earth day. It is ironic that in a day of rampant secularism and war against God and Christianity, that so many worship the creation (the Earth) rather than the creator.
I'm looking forward to spring and getting the garden planted. I celebrated this year by getting 9 new baby chicks and 1 baby turkey. Some of the chicks are a variety (sorry I can't remember the name) that lay green eggs.
Next year we'll have green eggs to go along with our green pancakes as we celebrate St. Patty's Day.
Araucana. I'm so excited about your turkey! Is he eating well? You have to watch them because they need the baby chicks to show them how.
ReplyDeleteAraucana?? huh, I'm missing something.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little apprehensive about the turkey. He/she (how do you tell?) is doing well with the other chicks.
I'm counting on you to butcher him/her this fall. I hear you're experienced.
By the way, I loved your and Marnie's blogs. I didn't know you were doing one until the other day. They both look really nice and were a lot of fun. I might have to try dressing this one up a bit! :-)
