The Lazarus in your life

Luke 16:20-31 contains Christ's story of a rich man and a beggar named Lazarus.  I shared this teaching with our young men last Sunday and asked them to put the story into our day.  Who might the rich man be today?  Who might Lazarus be?

They suggested the rich man today would be someone like [here they named several ultra-wealthy, popular sports and famous entertainment figures].  Lazarus today might be a nameless, homeless person on the streets.  Neither are people that these young men would regularly encounter in their day to day world.

How often we do this?  Think that life's lessons apply to other people but not to ourselves.  I reminded the boys that even though they may not consider themselves to be rich, in our neighborhood, their quality of life is probably in the top 10% - 20% of the world.

Is there a Lazarus in their life?  We don't have beggars on the street in our town, but what about the kid at school that no-one likes or the girl that nobody wants to ask to the dance?  We all know a Lazarus.

Who is the Lazarus in your life?  Are you like the rich man guilty of ignoring this person?  What could you do this Christmas season to make their life better even in a small way?
